There were also hectic scenes on the touchline, and Bielsa, the Leeds manager, could be seen telling his players to let Villa equalise uncontested.5

The game remained tied at 1-1 despite late Leeds pressure, with the result confirming Sheffield United’s promotion to the Premier League.

However, replays showed that there was no serious contact from El Ghazi, and Dean Smith confirmed Villa will appeal the red card.“Without a shadow,” he said after the match. “I will be absolutely amazed if it’s not rescinded. We will appeal that. He doesn’t deserve it. We needed emotional control from everybody.”On Leeds’ contentious goal, Smith added: “Klich has apologised. Every credit to Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa for putting that right.“I asked him and he agreed. He said ‘yes’. He apologised for what happened. Fair play to them.
