The January transfer window was relatively quiet by Premier League standards, especially compared to the heavy summer spending spree which preceded it.After splashing more than 1billion over the summer months, top-flight clubs spent a grand total of 138millionduring the winter window.

It was considerably less than the previous January window, too, with spending down 70 per cent from last season’s total of 465million.Chelsea were the biggest spenders by some distance, with the 58million capture of Christian Pulisic amounting for almost half the league’s total spend.In a bid to be more economical, clubs instead looked for loan deals with an option to buy in the summer.
