Declan Rice’s switch from the Republic of Ireland to England has been approved by FIFA after paperwork was completed with the FA.2

Rice has now had his international switch confirmed

The West Ham midfielder will hope to be selected inGareth Southgate’s squad for upcoming games against the Czech Republic and Montenegro later this month.Rice, 20, had previously represented Ireland at all age levels and played for the senior side three times in 2018, having qualified through his grandparents. As those matches were only friendlies and not competitive fixtures, Rice was allowed to make the change to England.A FIFA spokesperson said: “We can now confirm that the change of association has been approved.”It has been an impressive season for Rice, who has shone in the midfield holding role for his club and scored in the Hammers’ 2-0 win over Newcastle United.2

“He’s a complete player,” said West Ham manger Manuel Pellegrini.“That is a player who, for me, is the best English holding midfielder. The other important thing is he is trying to learn every day.“He’s a young player who has just started his career. He must try to continue listening, keep doing the things he does every day, play and get the experience he needs.”
