There are still 24 players available and 18 places in a squad. “At the same time, it is good because there’s competition for the players – the only thing that can be is positive for improving the levels.”Shelvey has made 106 Newcastle appearances since joining the club in a 12million deal from Swansea in January 2016.He has two-and-a-half years left on his deal at St James’ Park.
