The cash included 5,000 from a punter who paid for a picture with The Proclaimers, who performed on the night.Last May, the United legend was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery after suffering a seizure at his home in Cheshire.He spent four days in intensive care after being placed in an induced coma.Sir Alex praised the staff who treated him in his first public message after suffering his seizure.“Just a quick message first of all to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals,” he said last July.“Believe me, without those people, who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. So, thank you from me and my family. Thank you very much. It has made me feel so humble.”He has since returned to his usual seat at Old Trafford to watch his former side in action, and is even understood to have helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his position as United’s caretaker manager.The Scot won 38 trophies in a glittering 26-year spell at Old Trafford before retiring back in 2013.
