We think it’s serious

Welbeck was hurt in the 25th minute when he jumped for a header and landed badly on his right ankle. He received oxygen and had his leg in a protective brace as he was taken off the pitch, with up medical staff surrounding him as he received treatment.

Some of Welbeck’s team-mates looked visibly shaken at the extent of his distress and the player even received oxygen at one point.Emery admitted the mood in the changing room was sombre at half-time: Every player on the pitch looks at this injury. The first thought in your mind is for the player.Then I think the players were concentrated on the match, we forgot in the next minutes the injury, but the first thing after the match was to ask for him.2

It looks like Welbeck has broken his ankle, with Unai Emery calling it ‘the worst news’

Emery said: Every injury is different. He has broken something in his ankle. It is a different injury than another.The goalless draw secured Arsenal a place in the last 32, but afterwards Alex Iwobi acknowledged how difficult it was mentally.“Its very challenging mentally,” he said. “But sometimes it comes in the game and theres been a lot of injuries, and unfortunately for Danny hes had a few so were going to wish him the best.“Both sets of teams were mentally challenged and we were able to continue with the game, but like I said, we wish him all the best and we will keep on encouraging and motivating him to get back.”
