They have picked up just one league win since Boxing Day – against Leeds in February – with the worrying slump in form enough for QPR chiefs to call time on McClaren’s brief stint in west London.McClaren, 57, was appointed as Ian Holloway’s successor at the end of last season, his second spell at the club having spent a brief period on Harry Redknapp’s coaching staff in 2013.CEO Lee Hoos said: Making a decision such as this is never easy, particularly when you are talking about someone as professional and dedicated as Steve. We are grateful to him for all his efforts during his time with us. It is well documented that we are in a period of transition as we work hard to make the club financially stable. With that comes challenges, not least the cutting of the wage bill while aiming to remain competitive. As we look to the future, and taking recent results into account, we feel now is the right time to re-evaluate where we are.

The former England boss was in danger of losing his job after just four games as Rangers made their worst start to a league campaign in their history. However, he then oversaw an impressive run which took them up to eighth in the table and on the cusp of the play-offs.Since the turn of the new year the west London side’s form has been nothing short of a disaster though, including a run of seven straight defeats. And with just a single league win in over three months, QPR chiefs ran out of patience with McClaren – deciding to end his reign at a board meeting on Monday with seven games left of the season. Chairman Amit Bhatia said: On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Steve for his hard work during his time with us, and wish him well for the future.I would also like to thank our fans for their patience and unwavering support during what has been a very difficult run of results, at a time when the club faces well-documented challenges. We must now work towards ending this season positively and building for the future.John Eustace will take over first-team affairs in the interim period while QPR begin the search for a new permanent manager.
